ALEXANDRIA, IN-William “Lit” Ashby, 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.

He was born on November 19, 1923 in Florida Station to Jesse and Laura (Shafer) Ashby and has lived in the Alexandria-Gilman area most of his lifetime. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1946. Bill retired from Delco-Remy in 1981 after 32 years of employment. He was member of the Anderson Moose Lodge. For more than 40 years Bill has enjoyed time spent fishing at Ford Lake. He also enjoyed woodworking and had been a sulky racing driver.

Bill was preceded in death by a son-David Ashby, a granddaughter-Shelly Rene` Ashby, 2 Brothers-Ralph Ashby, Edward “Bus” Ashby, 2 sisters-Doris Alfrey and Nondas Miller

Services honoring Bill’s life and legacy will take place at 1 pm on Friday, December 15, 2017 in the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Todd Faulkner officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in Park View Cemetery at Alexandria. Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm.
