SUMMITVILLE, IN-Betty J. Jessie, 87, Summitville passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Golden Living Center in Muncie following an extended illness.

She was born on March 31, 1930 in Summitville, Indiana to Leo and Fern (Addison) Byrnes and has lived in the Summitville area all of her lifetime where she attended Summitville schools. She was a former member of the Back Creek Wesleyan Church and also attended Liberty Friends Church. She and her late husband Rufus owned and operated Jessie Trash Service. Betty babysat and cared for dozens of children down through the years from her home. She was an expert in potty training and tooth removal. She was also well known for her love of baking, especially pies which she shared with many. Betty loved music and enjoyed playing the organ. She really enjoyed the classes at Anderson Music Center. Her family was very important to her and her passing will leave a large empty place in the family circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband-Rufus Jessie, Granddaughter-Michelle Houston, son-in-law-Scott Hanes, brother-Sam Bowman

Services honoring Betty's life and legacy will take place at 10 am on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 West Walnut Street in Summitville. Rev. Ben Parker will officiate. Interment will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery at Summitville. Friends may call at the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home from 4 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday or after 9 am on Thursday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Champaign Downs Syndrome Network, 407 N. Condit Street, Tolono, IL 61880 or envelopes will be available at the funeral home. This will go for the benefit of Betty's great-granddaughter, Addison Franklin.
