ALEXANDRIA, IN-Mark R. Mattox, 54, Alexandria passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Community Hospital in Anderson.

He was born on December 27, 1962 in Castro Valley, California and has lived in the Alexandria area for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of JD Bassett High School in Bassett, Virginia and Ferrum College in Ferrum, Virginia. Mark had worked for Scott's Lawn Care. Since 2007 he was employed by the Indiana State Department of Health as a food inspector. Mark served with the United States Army from 1985 to 1990. He was a member of the American Legion. Mark was a lover of history and accumulated items that related to numerous historical periods. He enjoyed camping, campfires with his family and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father-Michael Patrick Caulfield, his adoptive father-Dr. Bruce Mattox Sr., his beloved grandmother who raised Mark-Dixie Mattox

Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5 pm to 7 pm. Military honors will take place at 7 pm on Tuesday and will close the visitation. Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
